From Design to Leadership: A Journey of Growth
Mike joined the Domaille team on March 17, 2008, during a pivotal time when the company was expanding its engineering team to serve Aerospace and Defense markets. With a professional background spanning over three decades, Mike has become a cornerstone of our operations.
His career began in manufacturing in 1988, where he worked in design for a small medical company supporting veterinarians. From there, he focused on design, machining, and manufacturing engineering—wearing many hats and tackling complex challenges at several privately owned companies.
The precision and technical nature of the fiber optic industry drew Mike to Domaille. “The intellectual property in our manufacturing processes is extremely precise,” he notes. His transition from engineering to operations leadership at DOMAILLE has been one of his most rewarding professional achievements.
A Day in the Life of Mike Utley
A typical day for Mike starts bright and early at 6 a.m. at the site, where he collaborates with the operations team to review daily status, goals, and projections. From supporting QA and engineering teams to overseeing shipments, bookings, and sales, Mike’s role spans multiple facets of the business.
Beyond the day-to-day, Mike is focused on expanding the fiber optic business and aligning goals with the management and engineering teams for 2025. “Each day brings something new, and I’m proud to represent a highly skilled team that’s deeply knowledgeable in our products and manufacturing processes,” he says.

Mike’s wealth of experience and open approach to collaboration have been instrumental in Domaille’s growth. “As your career progresses, you start to realize how many people you’ve had the chance to work with,” he reflects. “My hope is that I’ve shared enough along the way to help others grow and learn.”

Mike believes this is an exciting time to be in the fiber optic industry. “We’re seeing significant growth, especially in markets like data centers, AI, medical, and defense,” he explains. Fiber optic cables are enabling advancements in these industries, making Domaille’s work more vital than ever.
Technological advancements in medical and aerospace industries are particularly inspiring to Mike. “They’re always bringing new challenges to our team,” he says. Additionally, Domaille’s new product offerings are helping customers gain competitive advantages as they continue to build out infrastructure.
