Employee Spotlight Q&A: Jill Christie – 25 Years of Excellence at Domaille Fiber Optics
This week, we’re excited to feature Jill Christie, Director of Sales for Fiber Optic Equipment at Domaille Fiber Optics, as part of our Employee Spotlight series. Jill’s 25-year journey with Domaille is a story of growth, innovation, and dedication. Let’s get to know her better in this Q&A.
Q: How long have you been with Domaille Fiber Optics?
A: I’ve been with Domaille for nearly 25 years—I’ll celebrate this milestone in March 2025. It’s been an incredible journey of growth and learning.
Q: What drew you to a career in fiber optic equipment?
A: My background is in electronics, which led me to join Domaille as a Precision Assembly Technician. From there, I was able to immerse myself in the technical side of the business and grow my career.
Q: Can you tell us about your journey to your current role?
A: I started in assembly, which gave me an in-depth understanding of our products. Over the years, I’ve taken on roles that have allowed me to travel to dozens of countries, witness fiber optic production lines firsthand, and build lasting relationships with our customers. Today, I oversee global sales, distribution, and product and marketing strategies.
Q: What is a professional achievement you’re particularly proud of?
A: I’m proud to say I’m a joint holder of 11 patents, which wouldn’t be possible without our amazing R and D team. I love seeing our ideas come to life in new products. Another highlight is how we closed 2024 on a high note, exceeding both sales and booking targets.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you at Domaille?
A: My day is all about customer service and sales. I handle global sales and distribution, manage product launches and sales plans, prepare quotes, process orders, and oversee internal program management. It’s a fast-paced, dynamic role, but I love it!
Q: Can you share a recent project you’ve been working on?
A: 2024 was highlighted by the launch of the 5400 Automated Suite. I provided key design feedback, to the R and D team, to ensure it was as efficient and effective as possible. It was so exciting to see it all come together.
Q: How do you contribute to Domaille’s mission and goals?
A: I focus on driving sales, which is the foundation of our success. My experience working my way up through the company allows me to connect with customers at all levels—buyers, engineers, and executives alike. I understand customer challenges and can provide direction to help our group design solutions that work.
Q: How do you collaborate with your team and other departments?
A: I interact with almost everyone in the company on a regular basis. Whether it’s working with R&D, engineers, programmers, or the production team, our collaboration is seamless because of our small, family-like culture. Everyone here is working toward a common goal.
Q: What do you enjoy most about the culture at Domaille?
A: It’s the people! I enjoy working with my coworkers—they’re friendly, intelligent, and supportive. We have a family-oriented culture, which makes my job even more rewarding.
Q: How do you see the fiber optic industry evolving in the next few years?
A: Fiber optics are being adopted in so many areas, and with the rise of AI and cloud-based storage, the growth is expected to be exponential for at least the next six years.
Q: Are there any technological trends that excite you?
A: Absolutely! AI, like ChatGPT, is transforming industries, including ours. It’s exciting to see how technology is opening up new possibilities.
Q: Tell us a fun fact or hobby you enjoy outside of work.
A: I’m an equestrian and have been passionate about horses since I was a toddler. I love training, grooming, trail riding and spending time in nature. I also enjoy time at the lake, hiking, downhill skiing, gardening and most importantly quality time with my family.
Q: What motivates or inspires you?
A: Innovation inspires me. I love the process of creating new products and bringing them to market. Seeing our customers’ excitement when they use something we’ve developed is incredibly rewarding.
